My phone got run over in January and I got a new one over spring break. This is what I learned from my 3 months of being phone-less.
1. iCloud is pretty cool
I had gone on a trip and took a ton of pictures that didn’t disappear. I also had a lot of my math notes in my camera roll that saved so thank you Apple 🙏
2. Books exist
“What are you gonna do, read?” is what my friends said when I explained the unfortunate circumstance that I was in. And so later that night, I read a book. In fact, I had gone to the library more times during those 3 months than I did all of last year. It was a fun adventure. I recommend That Weekend by Kara Thomas. It’s very spooky and relevant to the upcoming prom season
3. QR codes are everywhere
They’re in the hallways, in classrooms, even in the bathrooms! I ended up being the kid who pulled out her computer for the TinyUrl to fill out the surveys. I had to type in the codes for all the Kahoots and Quizlet lives 😐
4. Remember Gmail?
Speaking of pulling out computers, that was how I communicated with everybody. I would open Gmail on my school laptop and “text” my friends and family. It was quite the spectacle watching me email people in class.
5. There’s a lot of… time
My homework got done on time, but there was still so much time left. The bus rides seemed really long, and classes seemed to drone on foreverrr. My favorite part was when I would spend time with my friends, and everyone pulled out their phones. (jk I love you guys) 🙃
Would I do this again? Absolutely not. My new phone must always be in my line of sight. I am too broke to get a new one. Moral of the story is: check your pockets for your phone after you get out of a car. That way you don’t make your dad drive you back to Lincoln to check the parking lot at 10:30 when really your phone is just on the street in front of your house…
Thank you for your time
