Something we all want to do, but here in Wallingford it may seem like there’s nowhere to do it. Fear not! I've dragged Jonah and Avik to every nook and cranny of Wallingford and we have assembled a complete list of all our (my) favorite places to run!
My House
If you're looking to make your whole running group suffer, no matter how good they are try running to my house! Since I'm not going to dox myself, you'll have to run to Maple Leaf Reservoir Park instead and trust that my house is somewhere nearby. The 500 foot hill aside, this is not an unpleasant run. But only for the truly daring.
Meridian Park
Meridian park is a nice recovery run, at roughly 2.7 kilometers this is an easy run with moderately pretty scenery. Plus, if you run down Meridian to 45th, you can very easily stop at Indigo Cow and get some top-of-the-line hokkaido milk soft serve. You will never be able to go back to Menchie's.
🥉 Woodland Park
If you're looking for the fresh scent of flamingos, or just to see some pretty plants and run some hills Woodland Park is amazing. You get to cross Aurora over the bridge, there's plenty of pretty plants, and it's perfect for working on your speed.
🥈 Gasworks Park
The second best route to run for cross country, or just for fun is Gasworks. Running to Gasworks from Lincoln is an excruciating run because of the hill, and Avik probably hates me for making him run it so many times. However, it's such a pretty route with flowers and trees everywhere plus you can sprint up kite hill at the bottom. Just be on the lookout for kidnappers in white vans on 40th.
🥇 Greenlake
In first place we have Greenlake! Being a classic location for runners of all ages this should come as no surprise. If you start at lower Woodland, Greenlake is almost exactly a 5k. It's flat, there's a lake, and there's a lady sometimes who writes free poetry for you—I strongly recommend getting a poem written (with your whole running group if possible). Be warned it takes ~20-30 minutes to get a poem written, make sure to plan accordingly.
